A Forever Home Book One
Werewolves are real. Marius enjoys the irony that everyone calls him a dog whisperer, not just because he’s a werewolf, but for his work at the local animal shelter. He has a unique talent for pairing families with their perfect pets upon first meeting them. But he’s still looking for acceptance and a forever family of his own. Then Jack comes into the rescue looking for a big, mean dog. To prevent Jack from making the wrong choice, Marius convinces him to adopt a needy spaniel mix instead. But when Marius learns Jack is tormented by horrible memories while at his apartment, he opens his home to the sweet, scared man. As their relationship grows, Jack feels comfortable telling Marius about the horrors he suffered. Marius hopes his steady presence, protection, and love can help Jack reclaim the pieces of himself broken on that terrible night.

Marius is a wolf shifter and the world knows about them. Some have come out and some have not. Marius is one of the wolves that has announced what his is and some have accepted him others have not. He runs an animal shelter and many people go to look at the wolf in human clothing as much as the animals. He has the gift of matching animals with people, he rejects those he senses would not make good pet owners. When Jack comes to the shelter looking for a big dog all of Marius' instincts start to spike, he is attracted to the silent cringing man. And although Jack says he wants a big dog he is obviously scared of them, so Marius tries to link him with a dog that is scared of humans and closed off to everyone. She reacts to Jack, and he reacts to her even though she is not a big dog that would protect him.It is obvious that Jack has suffered something so horrific and soul destroying that he can barely function through the pain and fear. Can Marius save him? Can the two form a bond through the fear and distrust Jack has of big men?
Jack gets his dog and that begins his healing. Marius is calm and constant and that helps Jack look beyond himself a small bit.
This is an interesting take on the shifter genre. There are no packs and Alpha's. There is just a man who has another side that actually comes into the story very little. It is frustrating it takes Marius so long to work out that Jack has been mortally wounded through actions taken by other people. To the reader all the signs are there as to what the incident involved. Jack lives in a small apartment and yet has blocked off the bedroom and won't even go in there to get different clothes. He just washes the one set. We get a bit of insight into the incident but not the specifics. Marius' brother is a wolf who has not disclosed to the world what he is, he is the avenger that Marius turns to when he needs justice. And while we know what Marius' brother is going to do we don't get to be part of it - the book stops and we don't get vengeance with our coffee which is really disappointing. The relationship is clunky and the other characters are not developed. But overall it is worth a read.

Rescuing Jack A Forever Home Book 1 edition by Caitlin Ricci Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This story had me with the animal rescue. It was a nice touch with the matching of the animals. I was totally taken with the inability to hardly speak and the tenderness of the main character to bring him around to love. I recommend this to everyone it is heart warming.
It's a sweet story, almost a romance, almost complete. We almost learn about Jack, almost learn about Marius. There is almost a resolution, they almost fall in love, and there is almost an end. The book was almost good.
I hope this becomes a series!
Rescuing Jack was a very sweet, funny, well written book.
I love Marius, the resident werewolf, and owner of the rescue center. And poor Jack, he'd been through so much. Of course these two are a perfect match.
There were some really good parts of this book. I love the fact that it resolves around a rescue center as I am a huge dog person!
Alot of comedy and warm hearted scenes.
Very enjoyable.
The only negative I hae to say at all is that the story is very predicatble. I think if we knew more about Marius and his brother growing up. Or more about what the brother does. I don't want to put in a spoiler but it is very important to the story... I would have liked it better.
I hope there is more. I want to know all about Marius brother!
I only got around 60% done with the book because it was so bad. One of the main characters has post traumatic stress and the protagonist has triggered him twice by holding him down. He even goes as far to blame the other character for his reaction rather than apologizing for what he did. The protagonist has a tendency to question and undermine the boundaries set by his partner and I will certainly not be picking up the sequel. This book wouldn’t be worth the money if it were free.
I have enjoyed other works by this author and I reccommend her to those who like to read about pet dogs and shifters. While I normally enjoy a lengthy work this story could have been shorter and still perserve the integrity of the storyline. This is a sad book with a terrified MC and how he has tried to cope with his debilitating fear. A big strong shifting MC who has a calming ability coowns a rescue shelter. how do you overcome such fear? How do you survive daily with such fear? How do you begin to trust again. How can you help a dog suffering some of the same symptoms? There is a HEA but getting there is full of angst tears fears and luckily a hero.
I enjoyed this story of a traumatized man who decides to adopt a dog to protect him and goes to an animal rescue shelter run by a werewolf named Marius. Marius has a special knack for knowing which pet is right for which person and he turns Jack's life around with his patience and kindness. I liked how strong Marius and his brother were. Their special abilities made the story work for me. It was interesting how in this story-world, werewolves have revealed their existence to humans and have to struggle to fit in, just like any other minority. I am sure I will read this again someday and will watch for other works by this author. Perhaps we will get the story of Marius's tougher brother next. ;)
One of the reasons I write reviews is so I will remember the book later and go back to read it again. ;)
